ARTeFACT Fahnenträger is part of a series of large paintings of objects that relate to the provenance and history of Théodore Géricault's (1791-1824) child portraits of Louise Vernet and the siblings Alfred and Élise Dedreux.
Géricault painted many soldiers and he used the same icongraphy in his portraits of children. Élises dress is painted much the same as a cuirasse worn by a soldier. Do these children need shielding?
