ARTeFACT skeleton suit is part of a series of large paintings of objects that relate to the provenance and history of Théodore Géricault's (1791-1824) child portraits of Louise Vernet and the siblings Alfred and Élise Dedreux.

In sketches and in the painting Alfred wears a skeleton suit much like this. Géricault's portrait of young Alfred was sold in 1922 as 'Le Roi de Rome'. The skeleton suit of the Roi de Rome (son of Napoléon) is kept at Chateau Fontainebleau in France.
