ARTeFACT Allacher Socken is part of a series of large paintings of objects that relate to the provenance and history of Théodore Géricault's (1791-1824) child portraits of Louise Vernet and the siblings Alfred and Élise Dedreux.
If you look closely Louises portrait at the Louvre shows how Géricault painted her sagging socks, as if they were still in (slow) motion. At Himmler's Allacher Porzellanmanufaktur they produced a porcelain figurine of a Hitler Jugend boy with sagged socks. Suddenly sagged socks no longer look innocent.
